The Catalyst 4507R-E switch, situated at Telvent, has been extended with 12 additional 1 Gbps ports, thus it currently has 18 fiber 1 Gbps ports. This extension was needed because with the last upgrades and entities connections to the Telvent node the number of available ports for new 1 Gbps connections was exhausted.
The 8th of June was the IPv6 World Day. Both Internet and content providers as well as institutions from all over the world took part in this initiative promoted by Internet Society. Thus, these institutions had their main web sites available in IPv6 (AAAA record of DNS), which will also worked in IPv4 as a second option (A record). This action was useful not only to enforce the dissemination of IPv6, but also to test the protocol and find possible configuration problems.

Easynet, internet and telecommunications service provider, has increased its connection speed to the Catalonia Neutral Internet Exchange Point (CATNIX) switch from 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps. Its access speed to CATNIX is 2 Gbps.

The Looking Glass functionalities have been increased with the incorporation of IPv6 and the addition of new commands such as ‘show ip bgp’ in IPv4 or ‘show bgp summary’ in IPv6. Looking Glass used to allow the execution of commands like ping or traceroute only, towards the addresses of institutions connected to the CATNIX.
Adamo Telecom Iberia has connected to the Catalonia Neutral Internet Exchange Point (CATNIX) to an access of 1 Gbps and one port of 1 Gbps as well to the switch through Telvent.
VeriSign and the former CESCA have installed a replica of the root servers A and J, and the TLD (Top Level Domains) .com and .net. With these new replicas, managed by VeriSign, and the one of the F root server, already available, the query response time to the DNS (Domain Name System) is improved and the security is increased, because the global impact in case of DDoS (Distributed Denial-of-Service) attacks is reduced. Specifically, two Cisco 3825 routers have been installed at the former CESCA as well as four Sun Fire X2200, in order to provide these replicas.
The delegate of the Catalan Government at Girona, Jordi Martinoy, and the secretary of Telecommunications and Information Society, Jordi Bosch, have inaugurated the first territorial extension of the Catalunya Neutral Internet Exchange (CATNIX), which up to now had two physical points in Barcelona, at the Consorci de Serveis Universitaris de Catalunya (CSUC) facilities, from where it is administrated, and at the Telvent facilities.
