CATNIX is the traffic exchange infrastructure in Barcelona for operators, Internet service providers, content providers, social networks, mobile phone and hosting companies, cloud service providers and academic and research networks.
Managed by the Consortium of University Services of Catalonia (CSUC), it is a neutral, redundant and highly available infrastructure for traffic exchange. With more than 20 years of experience working with operators and suppliers in Catalonia, CATNIX is the neutral point of reference for the city of Barcelona.
To make it easier for companies to connect, CATNIX has three locations in Barcelona.
CATNIX allows connected companies to improve their quality of service, with a distributed local peering platform to exchange traffic with minimal latency. It also provides a series of services such as DNS root (root servers), route-servers, network diagnostic tests, speed tests, monitoring tools such as Looking Glass or Peering matrix, etc.
In addition, as a non-profit organization, CATNIX invests in the improvement of the services it offers to the connected entities and in the connection conditions to encourage the connection of both local and international companies.
As a founding member of the European association of neutral points Euro-IX, born in 2001, CATNIX has a clear vocation of collaboration with the rest of international neutral points for sharing experiences and the improvement of traffic exchange. CATNIX also collaborates with other associations, such as RIPE NCC, for the proper functioning of the Internet, and the group of Spanish network operators ESNOG, to improve coordination between networks and the exchange of knowledge.
