First call through the VoIP service

It has been successfully carried out the first experimental Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) call to the Catalonia Neutral Internet Exchange Point (CATNIX) between Altecom and VozTelecom. This is one of the tests done to prove the functionalities of the prototype created for the exchange of voice at the neutral point.

Nowadays, many of the phone calls are transported via internet, nevertheless the aim of this platform is to reduce and minimize some of the problems related to the IP calls.

The experimenting VoIP platform of the CATNIX is flexible, it is based on the free software Kamailio, an advanced version of OpenSer, and it allows the redirection of the operator calls depending on the prefix dialled.

The features of this platform have been defined by the Voice Exchange Technical Commission (CTIV), created by the CATNIX Strategic Commission to discuss the subjects related to the voice exchange. During 2009 they have been working on the platform development, which is currently in experimental phase.
