The third route-server at CATNIX

The third route-server at CATNIX is now available

CATNIX has set up a third route-server to facilitate new members a quick start when they connect to the internet exchange, added to the possibility of having bidirectional BGP peering sessions. The route-server allows CATNIX members to modify its behaviour via communities. For instance, a member can decide whether it accepts all the routes of the route-server or just a subset.

This third route server aims to give redundancy and diversity to the service. The new route-server has been configured on GoBGPd, so that each one of the three route-servers is different (Bird, Cisco IRS4431 and GoBGPd).

Traffic between peering members does not cross the route-server, but goes directly from one member to another. Route-servers simplify the configuration of the members who use them. In addition, the route-server can be used as a backup in case of maintenance or problems with any other BGP session.

For the moment, the third route server is temporarilly located in Campus Nord, although it will be moved to Equinix in the future. You can peer with the three route-servers and have redundancy.
