IPv6 World Day

The 8th of June was the IPv6 World Day. Both Internet and content providers as well as institutions from all over the world took part in this initiative promoted by Internet Society. Thus, these institutions had their main web sites available in IPv6 (AAAA record of DNS), which will also worked in IPv4 as a second option (A record). This action was useful not only to enforce the dissemination of IPv6, but also to test the protocol and find possible configuration problems.

The former CESCA joins this initiative with its corporative web site and with the CATNIX one in IPv6. These web sites, together with other services (such as NTP, DNS, proxy, e-mail…) will remain permanently available over both IPv6 and IPv4.

A new tool has been designed in order to users can easuly verify the current state of their connections. This tool will also inform of the availability of IPv6 protocol: test-ipv6.anella.cesca.cat.

It is also foreseen that only few users have connectivity problems. If you would like to access any web site which is only available over IPv6, if you still don’t have this protocol, you can use the CSUC’s proxy, which can consult IPv4 and IPv6: proxy.cesca.cat, port 8080.

You can request for IPv6 protocol at ac-noc@suport.cesca.cat.
