The upgrade is part of one of the actions derived from the renewal of the Anella Científica core equipment, the academic and research network of Catalonia, to improve the capacity and extension of this network with collaboration with RedIRIS.
The current 100 Gbps connection between both services guarantees greater data transmission capacity, facilitating the exchange of information, among other services.
The action has been financed with Next Generation EU funds through the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism (MRR), which in Spain is structured around the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. Specifically, the renovation of the equipment is in the modernization and digitization of the education system issue, within the UniDigital Plan, which dedicates a block to digital infrastructures. The block is run by The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, through its Secretariat of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence (SEDIA) and, more specifically, through its agency to promote the digital transformation, Red.es, which commissioned to its RedIRIS department the development of the actions.
