RIPE RIS data can be accessed in real time via https://ris-live.ripe.net/, by selecting the probe rrc18.ripe.net, which is connected to CATNIX. RIS Live is a channel that displays updates on BGP messages received by the chosen probe, collecting information from RIS RRC nodes (RIPE Information Service – RIPE Route Collector) and detecting routing events worldwide. It also offers a full non-interactive stream (“firehose”) for advanced use cases.
RIS Live is one of several ways to access RIS data, alongside RIPEstat and raw data files. The tool has been used by academic and research organizations: in 2017, the INSPIRE and CAIDA groups leveraged RIS Live to develop ARTEMIS, a solution for real-time BGP hijack detection. It also serves as the backend for BGPalerter, a real-time BGP monitoring tool preconfigured to detect visibility loss and hijacks, which is also used at CSUC.
With this upgrade, CATNIX strengthens its infrastructure to deliver a more robust and reliable service to the operator and research community.
