Under the title “BMP: the pa amb tomàquet your BGP monitoring was missing“, Lucente has emphasized the need to monitor the BGP routing protocol for the Internet, which enables us to communicate over the network. Lucente has also recalled that while the BMP was initially conceived as a security protocol, in 2016 it was standardized in RFC7854, and updated in RFC8671 in 2019.
BMP is an uncomplicated protocol, but also a standardized way to retrieve BGP information from a lot of places. According to Lucente, “is not that we couldn’t get that information before, but now is less complicated and with greater visibility”.
