On July 20, CATNIX network infrastructure between its two switches at Campus Nord (CSUC-CN) and Telvent (CSUC-T) has been upgraded from 1 to 2 Gbps.
It has been activated a new mirror of the L-root server at the Catalonia Neutral Internet Exchange Point (CATNIX), managed by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). Specifically, it has been installed a new Dell PowerEdge R410 server at CSUC to provide this mirror.
Compañía Informática El Corte Inglés, known as IECISA, has connected with an access of 10 Mbps and one port of 100 Mbps to the switch through Campus Nord. With this connection, CATNIX counts with 26 members between operators, internet services providers and academic networks.
Th Catalonia Neutral Internet Exchange Point (CATNIX) provides a new service, the speed test, which measures the quality of internet connection in an easy way for users, showing the upload and download speeds in megabits per second (Mbps) and the latency in milliseconds (ms).
Maxen Technologies has connected with an access of 300 Mbps and one port of 1 Gbps to the switch through Telvent. With this connection, CATNIX counts with 25 members between operators and internet services providers.
The Catalyst 4507R-E switch, situated at Telvent, has been extended with 12 additional 1 Gbps ports, thus it currently has 18 fiber 1 Gbps ports. This extension was needed because with the last upgrades and entities connections to the Telvent node the number of available ports for new 1 Gbps connections was exhausted.
The 8th of June was the IPv6 World Day. Both Internet and content providers as well as institutions from all over the world took part in this initiative promoted by Internet Society. Thus, these institutions had their main web sites available in IPv6 (AAAA record of DNS), which will also worked in IPv4 as a second option (A record). This action was useful not only to enforce the dissemination of IPv6, but also to test the protocol and find possible configuration problems.
BT Telecomunicaciones has a new port of 1 Gbps of connection to the Neutral Internet Exchange Point (CATNIX), this port will be used to manage the traffic to the rest of the State. BT has a its disposal another point of 155/100 Mbps to the CATNIX.
Easynet, internet and telecommunications service provider, has increased its connection speed to the Catalonia Neutral Internet Exchange Point (CATNIX) switch from 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps. Its access speed to CATNIX is 2 Gbps.
