History
The Catalunya Neutral Internet Exchange Point (CATNIX), was born in 1999 as a result of the Catalan Information Society Strategic Plan 'Catalunya en Xarxa', a joint initiative of the Catalan Government and Localret.
The agreement for its creation was signed in the April 7th, 1999 as an initiative of the Centre de Serveis Científics i Acadèmics de Catalunya (CESCA), and the sponsorship of the formally known as Commissioned for the Information Society.
The founders of CATNIX, besides the ones already mentioned, are the following:

- Catalana de Telecomunicacions SOX (Al-Pi).
- Datagrama.
- Fundació Catalana per a la Recerca.
- Infase Comunicaciones.
- Institut Català de Tecnologia.
- Internet Network Services.
- Menta.
- Retevisión.
- Sarenet.
