A series of value added services is available for CATNIX members:

  1. Multicast
  2. IPv6
  3. NTP Server
  4. IXP-Watch Server
  5. Bogon Route Server
  6. F-root Name Server
  7. Looking Glass
  8. Out-of-band Access
  9. 24x7

Multicast

A multicast testbed began in 2000 with the participation of several CATNIX entities. Currently, there's a separated VLAN available for the participation of those members that ask for it, both in IPv4 and IPv6. If you want to start using this service, you can send an e-mail to consultes@catnix.net.

IPv6

CATNIX infrastructure allows IPv6 traffic exchange and it has been actively used for IPv6 events such as the IPv6 Summit included in the Internet Global Congress 2005. The first IPv6 exchanges were made in 2005.

NTP Server

CATNIX members have the use of a free-software based NTP stratum 1 time server to synchronize their equipment from 2004. This server, a Meinberg LANTime/GPS/AHS, has a built-in GPS card to synchronize simultaneously with the available satellites at every moment (between 3 and 8). You can ask for this service sending an e-mail to ntp@cesca.es.

IXP-Watch Server

The IXP-Watch tool, initially created by Rob Lister, from LINX, is designed to monitor on layer 2 and detect potentially dangerous traffic that could affect the performance of the IX (broadcast traffic, non-IP traffic...). This tool allows the members to know the purity of the traffic inside the exchange and identify strange patterns, usually caused by a misconfiguration on the equipment of one of the members. The IXP Watch Server is used in CATNIX since 2003.

Bogon Route Server

There are 2 routers of the Bogon Route Server project at CATNIX. These 2 routers are managed by Team Cymru (http://www.cymru.com/BGP/bogon-rs.html), and each CATNIX member can establish BGP peering sessions with them in order to obtain the bogon prefixes automatically and make the filtering easy (a bogon prefix is a route that should not appear in the Internet routing table; these ranges are commonly used as the source addresses for DDoS attacks).

F-root Name Server

CATNIX has a F-root name server replica managed by the Internet Systems Consortium (ISC) since 2005. This server accepts both IPv4 and IPv6 queries and it allows not only to improve the quality of service in the response time for the DNS queries but also to increase the security, because it guarantees the service operation in case of DDoS attacks.

Looking Glass

This tool, that began operating with the creation of CATNIX, is used to send interactive queries to some of the routers ant it is very useful to follow up routing problems.

Out-of-band Access

In order to access the equipment without using the regular interfaces, there's an out-of-band router available to CATNIX members since 2002. This service is specially useful in case of network or router problems, because it allows technicians to make a quick diagnosis. The access is done in a secure way, exclusively with ssh and limited by IP. You can ask for this service sending an e-mail to consultes@catnix.net.

24x7

In order to guarantee the maximum availability and reliability in the access to the equipment and services of the Centre, we have at the disposal of our members a 24 h service to attend the incidences occurred out of our office hours.
