    New replica K-root Name Server

    CSUC has launched a new replica of the k-root Name Server at CATNIX. This replica has been on trials with Anella Científica from its installation on August 18. With the new K-root replica, the latency from the K-root to Anella Científica has decreased, from 40 ms to 1 ms.

    J root server and '.com' and '.net' TLDs have been updated

    J root server freplica and .com and .net Top Level Domains (TLDs) have been updated at the Catalonia Neutral Internet Exchange Point (CATNIX). From having four SunFire X2200 servers and two Cisco 3825 routers, now a HP DL360p Gen8 is available, allowing a latency decrease of about 1.22 ms, being thus at 1 ms of any CATNIX member.

    NTP Server has been updated

    NTP server at the Catalonia Neutral Internet Exchange (CATNIX) has been updated. In particular, a new NTP server has been installed at CATNIX's facilities located at Campus Nord (CSUC-CN). The new server, a Meinberg Lantime M300/GPS, has a high stability TCXO oscillator, GPS receiver with an internal GPS card to simultaneously get synchronized with the satellites to which it has visibility at any moment (between 3 and 8), and anti-lightning protection.

    CATNIX speed test has been updated

    The speed test available at the Catalonia Neutral Internet Exchange Point (CATNIX) has been updated. This free service, which is available on the website, allows the user to easily check the quality of his or her internet connection by providing download and upload speeds in megabits per second (Mbps), and its latency in miliseconds (ms). Indeed, it also provides supplier information as well as a graph showing the test evolution.

    Upgrading connection between the two CATNIX switches

    On August 27 the link between the two CATNIX switches, installed on their points of presence in Campus Nord (CSUC-CN) and Telvent (CSUC-T), has been upgraded from 2 Gbps to 10 Gbps. This upgrade was considered to be done in the last Anella Científica technological renewal contract.

    LISP DDT root installed at CSUC's facilities

    LISP DDT root (Locator/ID Separation Protocol Delegated Database Tree) has been implemented at CSUC's facilities in collaboration with Cisco and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). The objective is to experiment with this new network infrastructure and internet protocol.

    Iporium Networks upgrades its connections

    Iporium Networks has upgraded its speed connection at CATNIX switch up to 200 Mbps. Since 2005 it was connected at 100 Mbps. Iporium Networks speed has also been upgraded up to 1 Gbps on the CATNIX access.
