L, F, J, .com and .net server replicas, at CATNIX

RÚplicas de los servidores L, F, J, .com y .net, en el CATNIX

The Catalunya Neutral Internet Exchange Point (CATNIX), has different Domain Name System (DNS) replicas in order to guarantee the service in case of Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks. Moreover, in that way, it is possible to get a better time of response in DNS consults, as well as security goes up.

The institution hosts a replica of the L-root server, managed by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). Before having this replica, CATNIX already had the J-root server, ran by VeriSign. CATNIX also includes replicas of the Top Level Domains (TLD) .com and .net, which are available thanks to the two Cisco 3825 routers that were installed at CSUC, as well as the four Sun Fire X2200 servers. The first replica hosted at CATNIX was the F-root server, managed by the North-American organization Internet Systems Consortium (ISC).

With all these additional services, CATNIX guarantee the service operation in case of possible attacks. Such replicas, which empower security, are the L, F, J, .com and .net servers.
